Ole New York

Hand-crafted gum bichromate Gum Bichromate prints

A hyperactive metropolis of human endeavor and creativity from economics through to architecture- love it or hate it, New York provokes a reaction. These images reflect the artist's fascination with the colourful history of the landmark boroughs and their neighbourhoods - all bulging at the seams with pioneering stories and struggles of the past.

Gum Bichromate printing is a 19th-century photographic printing process done by layering watercolour pigments that are prepared in a light sensitive emulsion and then applied in multiple layers using single colour split negatives. Gum prints are capable of rendering painterly images from photographic negatives. The process is labour intensive and every individual image created is unique.
