A Simple Summer
A Simple Summer is a limited-edition collection of film photographs that evoke the pleasure of being somewhere on an island where time slows down to an easier pace, honouring a simpler way of living and being in harmony with the seasons. An ode to a place where the sun always shines, endless shimmering blue seas, warm hospitality, a hint of tropical wildflowers on the salty breeze and long, summer afternoons, these vivid, transportive island scenes ignite nostalgia and wanderlust.
These film images were captured in Fiji, on and around Malolo Island.
Historically, Malolo Island has been a vital hub for trade and cultural exchange among the Fijian communities and neighboring Pacific islands. The island has witnessed the ebb and flow of various influences, including the arrival of European explorers in the 18th century. Fiji, including Malolo Island, eventually became a British colony in 1874, gaining independence in 1970.
Malolo Island has retained its distinctly authentic and untouristed simple way of life. The island's topography features gentle hills, adorned with lush greenery, palm-fringed beaches, and crystal-clear turquoise waters, providing panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and neighbouring islands. Numerous traditional Fijian villages dot the landscape, with a thriving local culture and typically warm Fijian hospitality. The island is surrounded by vibrant coral reefs, making it a haven for the diverse marine life beneath the surface.
